KEY REPORTS

Periodically, EIS Reports will address important issues relating to insurance broking and distribution. A key report written in conjunction with MEDI is available:

Analysis of the European Commission’s project to update the 2002 Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD2)

Evolution or Revolution? This report by MEDI provides independent analysis of the European Commission’s project to update the 2002 Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD1): the Commission’s proposals, the response by CEIOPS, the lobbying positions of the main protagonists, etc. It examines in depth the key issues facing the industry and its customers.

The proposed new Directive (IMD2) in seeking to improve consumer protection will change the market-place in which all involved in the act of insurance intermediation ply their trade. Potentially it is of vital importance to all involved in insurance distribution: brokers, agents, bancassurers, direct sellers, insurers, advisers and consultants, as well as insurance buyers themselves.

The authors of the report are Nick Davenport and Harald Krauss, founding partners of MEDI, each of whom played a role in the drafting process of the first directive, IMD1. In preparing the report they undertook a number of interviews with interested parties.

The report is available electronically to the whole European market in each or all of 5 languages (English, German, French, Spanish and Italian).
